Unseen Rajasthan Special-Bundi

Bundi Fort
In ancient times, the area around Bundi was apparently inhabited by various local tribes, of which the Parihar Meenas were prominent. Bundi and the eponymous princely state are said to derive their names from a former Meena king called Bunda Meena. Bundi was previously called “Bunda-Ka-Nal", Nal meaning “narrow ways”. Later the region was governed by Rao Deva Hara, who took over Bundi from Jaita Meena in A.D. 1342 by farud. renaming the surrounding area Haravati or Haroti.

The fort is so majestic but so well disguised in the hills there. Do you think it always blended in to the background?

I just like flying above a fairytale land. Wonderful place.

But though surrounding by a body of water, the place seems so barren. I wondering.

What was narrow about the ways of Bunda Meenor, I wonder? He certainly invested a lot of his wealth (and workers'/slaves'?) time in building that fort. Reminds me of a story--when living in Europe, I toured many castles. I asked a Scot why the fort was built on the hill above his town, "Was it to keep the English at bay?" "No," he answered, "just the neighbors."

This is unreal. The fort is just incredible...so massive...it could take days just to walk through it, I would guess!

I certainly can understand why it was not breached! And then the palace and the lake...

It is all so very beautiful!

What a story! Thanks for posting this!

I was just thinking that it would be great to see where these places are on a map. For example, you can see this one here: http://shrunklink.com/ctzf. Once your there, you can click the link button at the top right, to get a version that you can embed in your blog page. The neat this is that we can zoom in and out of such maps. Why not give it a try in future? I think it's great to be able to see where places are located on a map.
