Unseen Rajasthan Special-Abhaneri

History

Abhaneri is less than 2 hours drive away. The stepwell, Chand Baori, is a square shaped well, fairly deep possibly the deepest stepwell in Indo-Pakistan region, with thousands of steep steps on three sides and a deep green pool at the bottom. The adjacent temple is presursor of Khajuraho style by 200 years.

This is one of the finest place in Rajasthan and i loved this trip mostly among all.

What an amazing place! I'd never heard of a stepwell before, and totally enjoyed the introduction.

Prospero said...

Is the stepwell used for religious observances? I'm guessing that it has some spiritual meaning. The pool of green does not seem to be for bathing.

Amazing stepwell! This place is awesome. Is the green of the pool caused by algae? How deep is it?

@Prospero:No,This step well was basically made by the Ghosts and Not by the men's and that too in a single night. This water was used to worship God.

@Ladyviral:These step Wells leads to no where .This well is around 200 Feet deep.

@Buenos Aires Photoblog :Yes this green part is algae.

At first your photograph of the stepwell looks like a geometric print – then one realizes the depth of the well. Quite a wonderful place and with so much history. I am pleased to have seen it on your blog as I was not aware of it.

I don't know what a step well is but I will look it up. This is a beautiful place. I love the ornate statues. In this modern age it seems things are built for functionality rather than beauty. Thanks for sharing the beauty.
